Convention vs Mini Implants

Conventional dental implants are quite a bit bigger than mini implants. They are typically not suitable for smaller teeth. You may also be turned down for a conventional implant if your jawbone structure is not as sound as the treatment would need it to be.

A mini implant is much smaller and does not require as much jaw structure to hold a crown. They can also be used to provide you with not just a small implant, but also bridges and snap-in dentures.

Process of Getting a Mini Implant

The process of getting mini dental implants begins with a thorough oral examination. We will take some x-rays of your jawbone and tissue to see what is going on. You will then go through a consultation with our Buffalo dentist. We will determine if mini implants are the right treatment for your dental issues.

The next part of the process is going to be preparing you for surgery. We will walk you through everything that you need to do. If you have any dental issues that would impede our ability to give you implants, we will address those first and foremost. We need to get your mouth healthy enough to hold this implant.

The next step is your surgery. You will get anesthesia for this treatment. Our dentist is going to make a small incision where the implant will go. There will be a pilot hole that gets drilled into your jawbone. Then the implant gets put into the jawbone with a ball end showing. You might have some sutures to close up the incisions.

From here, the next step depends on what treatment you are receiving. If you are getting one crown placed, it will go on the ball end of the screw. If you are getting dentures, you are going to have them placed. It is going to be removable so you can easily clean it.
