What Are Porcelain Laminate Veneers?

How It Works:
If you and your dentist decide porcelain laminate veneers are right for you, we will schedule an appointment, take x-rays and provide a free consultation with our dentists to go over the goals you hope to achieve with the veneers. Once we get started, we will trim a small amount of enamel off the tooth and then take an impression of your teeth. Depending on your preference, we will also look to match the color of the veneer with your surrounding teeth, or if you are getting full mouth veneers, help you select your desired shade.
Once we take your impression, we send it across the street to our on-site dental lab where the porcelain laminate veneers are made. Once our dental lab customizes your veneers, you will receive a full dental cleaning and the surface of the tooth will be slightly roughened to improve the adhesion of the veneer. Using a special cement, the veneer will be attached to your tooth and then an ultraviolet light is used to secure the adhesion. From there we can make any adjustments or trim the veneers if necessary. That’s it. It is a very easy and minimally invasive procedure, with minimal risks. In fact, the most common complication associated with porcelain veneers is tooth sensitivity. Because some of the enamel is removed, patients can experience temporary tooth sensitivity, especially to hot and cold. A sensitivity toothpaste is often recommended, and the sensitivity typically goes away within a few weeks.
