Watch the video below to see Dr. Todd Shatkin being awarded the Presidential Medal of Honor by Daemen College
Dr. Todd Shatkin is honored to receive the prestigious Daemen College Presidential Medal, the college’s highest recognition of individuals who serve as a strong, positive role model for students and alumni.
The medal honors individuals who have made a significant effort to improve the quality of life in Western New York, have made contributions toward the growth and advancement of Daemen, and have invested substantial time, effort or resources to improve the world and humanity.
Daemen President Gary Olson presented the medal in a special virtual ceremony held on Nov. 13 in Dr. Shatkin’s honor.
A long-time partner and advocate for Daemen College, Dr. Todd Shatkin’s support has been vital in Daemen’s COVID-19 testing efforts for all students, faculty, and staff. You can watch the entire ceremony by watching the video below.
“A pillar of the Western New York community for more than 30 years, Dr. Shatkin exemplifies the values that Daemen upholds: civic engagement, personal initiative, and the entrepreneurial spirit,” said Olson. “He is an important member of our college community and has been instrumental in the success of Daemen’s response to the unprecedented pandemic we are experiencing. Dr. Shatkin is an exceptional role model to our students, and to all of us.”
This has been an exceptionally difficult year for everyone, especially institutions of higher learning. When COVID-19 hit and Governor Cuomo asked New York State companies to retool and help create PPE, Dr. Shatkin took that as a directive and quickly set up a new company called Pure Environments by Shatkin F.I.R.S.T. to manufacture N95 masks for New York State frontline workers as well as for the rest of the country.
Dr. Shatkin and his brother Dr. Samuel Shatkin Jr. also saw the need for increased COVID-19 testing facilities, and with the support of Daemen College, we were pleased to implement the drive-thru COVID testing at our office and expand that testing to all Daemen students, faculty and staff as they returned to campus.
We will continue to do whatever we can to help maintain a safe environment for the community here in Western New York and as we continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, our hearts go out to those who lost loved ones as a result.
