Permanent Dentures

The older you get, the more likely it is that you’ll lose some teeth. This can be from either natural tooth decay or oral health issues. Unfortunately, as you lose teeth, the structure of your face and mouth may begin to alter as well. That’s because your teeth provide foundation points for your facial muscles. When you don’t have teeth in place, these muscles can begin to sag, as there is no support being provided to them. This, along with missing teeth, can lead to self-confidence issues. If you’re getting older and losing your teeth, it may be best to consider getting permanent dentures. There are many different types of dentures, but some are better than others.

Your Denture Options

There are many different kinds of dentures, and some are better than others depending on your oral situation. The first, and often the most common, form of dentures are removable dentures. These, as the name suggests, can be put in and taken out of your mouth whenever necessary.

Often times, this form of dentures are prone to falling out or moving around in your mouth, which for obvious reasons is not ideal. Because of that, another version is available. These are known as permanent dentures, and they are meant to stay in your mouth forever. These are better for people who don’t want to deal with the upkeep that they may have with removable dentures. Before deciding, it’s important to understand the benefits associated with them.

Benefits of Permanent Dentures

There are plenty of reasons as to why dentures are great for a wide variety of people. First of all, permanent dentures increase the structure of your bones. When they’re implanted, new bone begins to grow around them and thus form a stronger bond. This could help you regain and maintain necessary facial structures.

Additionally, while removable dentures cause sore spots, permanent ones do not. Sore spots occur when there is friction between two spots. Since permanent dentures can’t move, this issue is nonexistent.

A third benefit to getting dentures is you’ll need fewer dental visits and treatments. Implants are said to be stronger than the natural tooth root, and especially stronger than removable dentures. Since they’re so sturdy and reliable, you won’t need as many follow-up appointments! The benefits of permanent dentures are clear to see.

Process of Getting Dentures

Getting permanent dentures implanted is a bit of a longer process than removable dentures. That’s because instead of having dentures that sit on top of your gums, these are surgically implanted into your jawbone. To get dentures, your dentist will first take an impression of your mouth. This will help them determine the shape of the dentures needed.

Next, molds are made of these impressions to use as guidelines when creating them. Your dentist will send the molds to a laboratory who will expertly craft your dentures. When they return, the implantation process begins. Your dentist will use implants to affix your dentures to your mouth.
